Valemount Official Community Plan and Zoning Bylaw, Village of Valemount (2020-2021)

MVH directed the group of consultants to enrich the current Official Community Plan (OCP) and the Village Zoning Bylaw. This picturesque small community is located at the foot of the Rocky Mountains in central eastern British Columbia, an hour’s drive west of Jasper, Alberta. Working in-person and remotely, MVH engaged the community, staff, and council to develop a far-sighted plan that was rooted in the values of the community. Increasing business and industrial activity, expanding trail connections, providing for senior’s living, and providing smaller lots and infill housing opportunities are part of the policy directives for the future. This is an enabling plan that provides for economic growth, compact development, and community amenities as the growth occurs. The work also created a 24-hectare (60 acre) master plan for City lands that includes senior’s housing, multiple-family housing, mixed uses, a central park, and local light industrial park adjoining an existing high school.
